Ethernet switch management

The ether switch can be managed via 3 methods:

(1) using a serial line - connect the rollover serial line cable between a COM port on the front end server and the management port on the switch. Use kermit or minicom to connect. See the switch manual for details of port configuration information.

(2) Using telnet to the switches IP address from the front end server.

(3) Using http. Use Netscape to http to the switches IP address which can be found in the /etc/hosts file on the front end server. We will provide you with a provisional password.

Generally speaking the ethernet ports should all be set to autodetect (speed and full/half duplex status).
