BIOXHIT/CCP4: Ms 5.2.5 Developing the knowledge database

This document is a place to put ideas about developing the BIOXHIT/CCP4 knowledge database content and functions.

Implementation

The knowledge database will be developed alongside the tracking database, using SQLite. The tracking and knowledge databases will be linked (how?) and together will form a hybrid database implementation.

Methodology

The question is "how are we going to go about developing the knowledge base schema?"

The current plan is to start with a "seed" database schema, which can be used as an experiment to trial the technology. We will then try to extend this gradually based on feedback/usage.

Notes from discussion with WY 3/4/2007

Some suggestions from this meeting:

• We should start with data that is useful for input into other tasks (for example sequence data, others...?)
• A good place to start would be to investigate the MrBUMP inputs
• Then we need to check that the mechanics of the SQLite embedded backend are working correctly.
