An NIH funded position is open for a Post-doctoral/Research
Associate. There are two exciting
projects on the structure/function of the yeast ATP synthase and studies on the
structure and function of the Batten gene product, Cln3. This provides an opportunity for training in
any of these areas such as allowing a crystallographer to learn methods in
cryo-EM. Since the ATP synthase and the
Cln3 gene product are membrane proteins, we utilize overlapping methods in the
studies. We also utilize yeast genetics and _expression_ systems to express and engineer
proteins to aid in the purification and structure determination. While we do not have a cryo-EM facility, we
have active collaborations with other labs and get access to national
cryo-EM facilities. We have computers
dedicated and designed to run the computational programs used in cryo-EM and
x-ray crystallography. We are located in North Chicago, home of Abbott Labs, Abbvie and other major pharma companies, and close to Northwestern University and the city of Chicago.
