Cryo-EM Core Director at NYU School of Medicine
Job description

The Director of the cryo-EM shared resource facility at NYU Langone will be responsible for the scientific and strategic oversight of the facility, as well as the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies for cryo-EM imaging, in support of research projects of a broad spectrum of faculty from our institution. The Director will maintain a high level of professional expertise and scientific networking within the global cryo-EM community. The Director will have a non-tenure track Faculty level position, commensurate with experience, and will be reporting to the Assistant Dean for Advanced Research Technologies.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement state-of-the-art technologies and expertise that will support various modalities of cryo-EM data collection, ensure that all instrumentation and equipment operate efficiently and produce data of the highest possible quality
  • Attract and retain outstanding research staff to support daily operations (2 staff scientists will be recruited immediately)
  • Supervise staff scientists to ensure the highest standards of data production
  • Interface with other shared resources to ensure availability of essential infrastructure, efficient data flow, and smooth operation. Relevant facilities include the Microscopy Core and the High-Performance Computing Group
  • Communicate ongoing progress to user groups and advisory committee and act as a key interface to engage new projects, internal and external, including with non-expert users and customers from NYU Langone as well as from external academic and corporate institutions
  • Advocate for and collaborate on cryo-EM applications with the research community at NYU Langone to support existing projects and to educate and facilitate new labs that would benefit from this technology 
  • Participate in external funding applications, e.g. instrumentation grants, large-scale Center grants and collaborative grant applications, and others
  • Create and implement training programs that will serve the needs of the scientific user community and promote the scientific programs of the cryo-EM shared resource
  • Communicate with vendors and engineers for the maintenance and upgrade of equipment, thus ensuring that the shared resource represents the state-of-the-art in cryo-EM
