By default the front end server serves user files to the compute nodes
and also has a NIS server running on the front end which
was used during the installation process. Check the /etc/exports file
on the front end and the /etc/fstab files on the compute nodes to see
what files are mounted across the cluster. Typically this will be
the directory trees :
/users
/usr/local
/opt/score/deploy
You may remove the first one (users files) should you wish to replace it.
The /usr/local and /opt/score/deploy are used by the cluster so you
should leave these as is.
A NIS server runs on the front end and typically has databases
for password, shadow, group, hosts. You may continue to use this
in order to administer user accounts for instance. If you want
to replace this service with an external service you can do so.
In this case see the section on firewall configuration.
