Powering up the system

The compute nodes have a soft power switch at the front and a rocker switch to isolate the power at the back. Normally the isolation switch at the rear should be left in the on position. However it is important to put the isolation switch at the back of to off before opening a unit or attaching a keyboard or mouse (e.g using extension cables). Failure to do so can produce a hardware failure on the system board.

To power the system up from cold, first boot up the front end server. Once the front end is up and you can login, then power up the compute nodes. Ensure that the isolation rocker switch at the back of each compute node is set to on, that the wall power supply is on and then push the soft power switch at on the front panel of each compute node. A set of LED indicators on the front panel of each node indicate the temperature status, hard disk, network and power. If the temperature overheat indicator lights up (red) please power off the unit immediately and call for maintenance. If your system has SCSI hard disks then the bootup time can take 1-2 minutes. Please be patient.
