[ccp4bb] Scientist 1 (Protein Sciences) - Chan Zuckerberg Biohub

Dear ccp4 community,

My group at the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, located in San Francisco, CA, is looking to hire an enthusiastic protein biochemist at the level of Scientist 1 to work broadly in the area of antigen and/or antigen-immune molecule characterization.  Postdoctoral and/or industrial experience is a plus, but not required.  See below for a link to apply.  Thank you for your consideration, John.

Description

The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub is a well-funded, non-profit, life science research institute that brings together three powerhouse universities – Stanford, UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco – into a single collaborative technology and discovery engine. We are committed to solving some of the world’s biggest problems together: we seek to help cure, prevent or manage all human diseases by the end of the century. We find and invest in the best and brightest scientists and engineers and we seek to create an environment of true and free-flowing collaboration. We provide the best technologies and tools available – and when they don’t exist yet, we build them.

We are seeking an outstanding protein biochemist to join our Protein Sciences group within the Infectious Diseases Initiative at the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub. The candidate will be responsible for the development of novel methods and/or technologies that aim to design, purify and/or characterize antigens and antigen-immune molecule complexes of interest. In their role as a respected protein sciences expert at the Biohub, the candidate will also foster collaborations within the broader UCSF, UC Berkeley and Stanford communities by working closely with research associates, students and/or postdoctoral associates from all three institutes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute on a novel project in the area of antigen-immune molecule complex design, purification and/or characterization, including epitope mapping
  • Build up working collaborations with researchers at partner institutes (UCSF, UC Berkeley and Stanford) as needed, to further the objectives of the primary research project
  • Perform necessary wet lab experiments individually, or with support from Protein Sciences group members as needed.

Requirements

  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, Immunology, Structural Biology, or related discipline
  • Expertise in the purification and characterization of challenging macromolecules and/or complexes (e.g. viral glycoproteins, antibody-antigen complexes)
  • Experience with automation (e.g. liquid handlers) and higher throughput methodologies for protein purification and/or characterization
  • Some familiarity with experimental structural biology methods, such as hydrogen-deuterium exchange (HDX) or cryo-EM, is a plus

This opportunity is full-time only. No contractors, consultancies or recruiters will be considered. CZ Biohub is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
