[ccp4bb] Job posting: Founding Director of PDB China

Founding Director, Protein Data Bank China

We are currently seeking an experienced structural biologist to become the founding Director of Protein Data Bank China (PDBc). The successful candidate will work with the Worldwide Protein Data Bank (wwPDB) Core Members (RCSB PDB and BMRB in the US, PDBe in Europe, and PDBj in Japan) to satisfy the requirements for PDBc to become a member of the wwPDB organization. wwPDB members jointly manage the wwPDB Core Archives, provide expert deposition, validation, and biocuration services, ensure universal open access to public domain structural biology data, and develop and promote community-endorsed data standards for archiving and exchanging structural biology data.

The applicant should have at least 10 years of experience in biological macromolecular structure determination using X-ray crystallography or cryo-electron microscopy. She/He should have a well-established track record of successful collaborative engagement, as close alliance with the wwPDB leadership will be essential to meet the current challenges in archiving of structural biology data. Additional experience in computational modeling would be useful.

Resources: The Director is expected to initially build a team of about 10 scientists, which will expand as needed with the full support of the iHuman Institute (iHuman) and Shanghai Institute for Advanced Immunochemical Studies (SIAIS) at the ShanghaiTech University and the National Center for Protein Science in Shanghai (NCPSS), and to develop the computational infrastructure required to support the facility. In addition, the director will be responsible for developing the cutting-edge technology required to underpin the PDBc web site and its services.

Location: The position will be a joint between the NCPSS, iHuman and SIAIS at ShanghaiTech University. It is centrally located across the street from one another in the Zhangjiang HiTech Park in Pudong New District, Shanghai. World class facilities located within 10 minutes of the PDBc include the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility, the National Facility of Soft and Hard X-ray Free Electron Laser, ShanghaiTech with multiple cryo-electron microscopy and NMR facilities, the National Center for Protein Science in Shanghai with large scale mass spectrometry, NMR and cryo-EM facilities, and the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica.

Interested applicants should email their CV and statement of interest (with the subject header: PDBc Director) to ihuman@shanghaitech.edu.cn.
